P.O.W.E.R. In Comics Back To School Book Drive - Update

I've been doing some research in my local area on this... Our inner-city libraries are absolutely interested in graphic novels. The thing is - they don't want used stuff because it won't hold up over time. But, they said that if we donated new graphic novels they would definitely take them.

I now have a message in to the person who buys their graphic novels, to find out what they have, what they need more of, and what they'd like but haven't had the money to purchase. What I'm now thinking of doing here is having a fund raiser, where people can donate money that will go towards the purchase of new graphic novels for the library. I could also put together an in-store display with those books they'd like to have, and make them available for people to purchase for donation. However, the money does go further with a cash donation, since we would give t he library the books at our cost, versus people buying them at retail price.

I will have to see if I can come up with any other incentive ideas to help get people to donate.

If you are considering hosting a P.O.W.E.R. in Comics book drive in your area, or asking your local comic book retailer to participate, you might want to check with the library, school or other organization you are thinking of donating to in order to see what types of stuff they'd be most interested in and what, if any, requirements they have. Or, talk with your LCS - they may have donated to or worked with the local libraries or schools and have contacts and ideas.
