Free Comic Book Day 2008 - The Books

Here is the list of this year's Free Comic Book Day offerings. Now sometimes these change between when they're officially revealed in Previews and when the comics come out, so keep that in mind. For brief descriptions and pictures see the February Previews catalog. I'm sure they'll all go on the FCBD website eventually too - as of this post they still have last year's comics listed.

Remember, this year FCBD is May 3rd.

Gold Sponsor Comics:
  • ARCHIE COMICS JUGHEAD
  • BONGO COMICS FREE-FOR-ALL
  • HELLBOY BPRD
  • ALL STAR SUPERMAN #1
  • PROJECT SUPERPOWERS
  • TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED
  • BROKEN TRINITY
  • X-MEN
  • STRANDED
  • SHONEN JUMP SAMPLER

Silver Sponsor Comics:
NEOTOPIA, APE CARTOONAPALOOZA #1, ARCANA STUDIO PRESENTS, ARCHIE COMICS SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #1, WORLDS OF ASPEN #3, SALEM, DEL REY & DABEL BROTHERS PREVIEW, TINY TITANS # 1, DRAFTED, GEGIKA A D&Q MANGA SAMPLER, GRAPHIC CLASSICS SPECIAL, IMPACT UNIVERSITY VOL 4, INTERNATIONAL GRAPHIC NOVELS AT THEIR ZENITH #1, WALT DISNEYS GYRO GEARLOOSE, EC SAMPLER, LOVE AND CAPES 2008 FCBD ED #7, MARVEL ADVENTURES IRON MAN, NASCAR HEROES #5 ALL STAR SPECIAL, MAINTENANCE, COMIC BOOK CHALLENGE SHOWCASE, IMAGINARY #1, ATOMIC ROBO NEOZOIC AND FRIENDS, AMELIA RULES COMICS AND STORIES, MOTH GREATEST HITS, KIDS LOVE COMICS COMIC BOOK DINER, OWLY AND FRIENDS, COMICS GO HOLLYWOOD, KID HOUDINI AND THE SILVER DOLLAR MISFITS, GUMBYS COLORING COMICBOOK SPECIAL #1, WIZARD HOW TO DRAW SAMPLER, MAXIMUM RIDE VOL 1

Now typically the Gold sponsors are supposed to have all age offerings. There are a few that I'm going to have to say are not all age appropriate. Stranded is one example. It's a Virgin Comics title that came out a couple of weeks ago. It's not a "mature" book, but really not for kids either. Project Superpowers is another one like that. But overall, between silver and gold sponsors, it looks like a nice mix of things. Of course the only information we receive is the same information you get in the Previews. I wish we could view PDF's or sample copies of these, to be sure we know what we're buying to give away, but so far that hasn't happened.

Every year I hope that DC will offer something new instead of two reprints, and every year they offer reprints. Marvel manages to do one new story and one reprint. I don't know why DC can't do the same. Even some of the small press gang do something new instead of just making a sampler or reprint, and they have far fewer resources at their disposal than DC.
