Marcus Theaters - No Flags for the Fathers

Today the Clint Eastwood movie, Flags of Our Fathers, based on the WW2 battle of Iwo Jima, premieres in theaters. However, for those of us who live in the midwest and have Marcus theaters in abundance, you might be surprised to find that the movie is NOT showing. In fact, only one Marcus theater in each of the midwestern states IS showing the movie.

You might be wondering why... well, its not because it isn't a good movie. In fact, if you want to see this you should probably get your tickets ahead of time or plan to have the screens sold out. Aparently the move was originally a Paramount film, and Marcus Theaters had made the contract with Paramount for the price and amount of reels needed for the many theaters. Then, it became a Dreamworks film, and Dreamworks told Marcus, and probably all other theaters too, that they we renegotiating for a higher price per reel. Marcus said no way, because the deal was already done before Dreamworks got involved. Dreamworks said you pay our price or you don't get the film. So, Marcus, knowing they had to have SOME theaters show it, decided on only one per state.

On a side note - I'm seeing The Departed this weekend, which I've heard great things about. I'd like to see Flags of our Fathers, but it might have to wait until it comes out on DVD since I hate crazy crowds at movies and only deal with it when it's a movie that I just can't wait to see.
