Attention Writers

The web site Comic Fodder is looking for writers. They're looking for people who have opinions and aren't afraid to express them and defend them in a public forum.

so they are looking for people who will cause internet-drama in hopes of raising their daily hits?

Yikes, no.

Comic Fodder is attempting critical analysis. Like with any good argument, we're just asking that writers who go out on a limb are prepared to defend themselves with a sound argument.

I invite all readers from this site to visit us at Comic Fodder and see what we're up to.

I think, perhaps, it's the use of the term "defend" that gives the impression of wanting to "cause internet-drama."

If a writer has to "defend" what they write, that insinuates that they will be getting attacked (verbally or otherwise). I'd think that a site such as you say you want, would not tolerate that kind of behavior (for either readers or writers of the site).

Going by what you say you are looking for, a better way of expressing it might be to say you are "looking for writers who will give honest and forthright opinions and have the convictions to stand behind what they say." This would sound more like you want people who don't just follow the popular opinions of the day and have thier own ideas, which they will be willing to claim and admit to, while not falling back from them at the first sign of a disagreement.

I don't think I need to say it, but will anyway, that gettuing your point across on the internet relies almost entirely on the words you use. I think your use of "defend" in what you originally wrote, is what raised that red flag with Scott. Just thought I'd bring this to your attention, so that you might be more mindful in the future. Good luck with getting the kinds of writers you want.

I agree. As someone who has had to "defend herself" on the internet, the word can bring negative connotations that might make one anticipate the kind of drama I was facing at the time. You don't want to have to be the writer defending yourself against lies and people who are, sorry to say it, just plain ignorant.

But, asking for writers who can provide a critical analysis and have strong opinions is great. If I thought the Comic Fodder was just a site about drama and antics I wouldn't have posted the link.

I completely understand what you guys mean. Thanks for the tip. I guess I was thinking of "are you prepared to defend your thesis and/ or argument?" and hadn't considered the connotation you're describing.

I certainly appreciate the feedback and will review my language in the post as well as remain mindful of that sort of language in future posts.
