What you've Been Waiting For

If you have a feeling that one of your favorite comics has taken longer than a month to come out, you might be right! And you have come to the right place to find out. Here is my weekly posting of comics that have taken 7+ weeks between issues. Some are late, but not all.

Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil #3 (DC Comics) was the first to make the cut this week, with it's previous issue having come out on 3/7. (My cutoff was 3/14 but there weren't any that fell into that week.) According to my DC email, this should have come out on 4/4, so it's about a month behind schedule. This is a really fun comic book and Jeff Smith's art works great with the story he's telling of young Billy and Shazam! Go see if you local comic book store has the first two issues too and pick them all up - and if they don't have them contact me - we ordered lots because it's just that good.

Darkness Level 3 (Image's Top Cow) and City of Others #2 (Dark Horse) both had their prior issues come out on 2/28/07 - over two months ago. Darkness was ordered back in December so it probably is late. I believe the first two "levels" came out closer together. And what's up with this thing anyway? It seemed like a comic too push the video game, which was being pushed at Wizard World LAST summer - and I'm not sure if the darn game has even come out yet. City of Others #2 was ordered in February, so at worst it might be a few weeks late. I guess Dark Horse doesn't think the horror fans care if books come out on a regular schedule.

Warhammer 40K #3 had the previous issue hit shelves back on February 21st. (I think it's published by Boom! Studios, but I don't know for sure.) This issue was also ordered back in December, and I am pretty sure that issues 1 & 2 were about a month apart.

Astonishing X-Men #21 (Marvel) is finally coming out this week. Issue #20 came out back on Valentine's Day (2/14). This comic is historically late. It was supposed to only be every-other-month for the first few issues of the new story, but that hasn't happened. In fact, this issue, as you can see, has gone over 2 months between issues. It was ordered in January, and Marvel's January previews has a release date of 3/14. But despite it's lateness this comic book continues to sell VERY well.

The longest gap between issues goes to Emily the Strange #4. However, I want to note that while we consider this a comic, some consider it a graphic novel. They do collect these into larger TPB's though, so we call these comics. Emily #3 came out 10/4/06 - seven months ago. But this is typical for this comic, so I'm not sure if it's late at all or not.

Oh - I had to share this - and I can assure you it will be on the late list - in 2 weeks, on May 16th, we are supposed to finally see another issue of Really Late (All-Star) Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. Can it be true? Will pigs fly and hell freeze over? Is it a sign of the apocalypse? It's only been over a year since the previous issue, after all.
