Anyone want to buy my house? (no, that's not it in the picture to the left--you have to click the link to see the real thing)
Because the real estate market isn't great right now we have been just fixing up our house with little things here and there, as we have time. But no plans to sell it.
However, a couple of weeks ago we were driving to the store and spotted a house for sale just around the corner from our 141 E. Sunset Dr. store location. We couldn't find it on the listing service (a whole separate and crazy saga), so we called the number. After three calls and an email the realtor finally called us back and took us into the house. It's small - only 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and about 1000 square feet. But newer than our house, and the location is so ideal right now, since we currently live about 30 miles away from the store. It also needs a LOT of work - the current tenants are the daughter and grandson of the owner and they've been living there rent-free and wild for over 9 years. Finally the parents have realized that the kids are destroying their investment and want out. Which means there's an opportunity to get a house close to the store that would ordinarily be a bit out of our price range but is now affordable if we don't mind fixing the place up. So we put in a low offer and we've got our fingers crossed.
But, we have to sell our current house before we can buy a new one! Our realtor is a little firecracker and wants to help us get it sold for decent money asap. That means that all of the little projects, and some big ones, we've been putting off have to be done in the next week. Last Saturday/Sunday we tore out the old front porch that was starting to rot and put in a new one. Tomorrow we've got to empty out the basement of junk and get it cleaned up and take down the weight machine we just put together 6 months ago (the realtor said it takes up too much room). Then we've got to clean more, pack more, rearrange furniture, carpet the sun room, paint... all kinds of projects to get done by the 14th so she can have our first open house on the 15th. Craig and I are both sore already and we've still got to work at a break-neck pace to get it all done.
And that's while we're also running the comic store! WHEW!! Just to buy a house that needs even MORE work because it's close and has good potential. Darn real estate - in my next life I'm going to be homeless in Hawaii if I have anything to say about it. I've been stressing major between running the store, trying to get the house ready to sell, and dealing with the crazy realtor for the house we're trying to buy. (I had a HUGE fight with her on the phone this morning.) I've had so much on my mind it takes me two or more hours to fall asleep and then I wake up at about 5:30 am and can't fall back asleep. So much to do, so little time. Anyone have a time machine I can borrow?

I feel your pain. My girlfriend and I just sold our house and are buying one in a much better location. Luckily the old house didn't need much work and we hadn't lived there long enough to clutter the place. But settlement on both house and the big move is on July 20th. That will be a crazy, hectic day!
