What you've Been Waiting For

Here we are again. It's Tuesday already - and I can't believe we're over half way through the month of July. Days are getting shorter - time is flying and before I know it I'll be doing my Christmas shopping.

The time must fly for comic book companies too. Suddenly, before they know it, a deadline has slipped away and the comic book is now two months late. Sure, the publisher should try to enforce those deadlines, but you can't rush art. Can you?

Once again this week Marvel escapes the list. In fact most of the books that have taken over 7 weeks between issues are smaller press stuff. Some are late, while others simply planned to release their issues on a longer schedule than monthly. So, here we go with this week's list of comics you've been waiting for.

This week my cutoff was May 23rd, but no one met that. However, there were several comics that had their prior issues release back on May 16th. They include: Gargoyles #5, Painkiller Jane #2 (Dynamite Entertainment), Goon #19 (Dark Horse) (that's between this issue and Satan's Baby special, not the last issue of Goon, which would actually be a much longer gap, so I'm being generous), and Warren Ellis Black Gas 2 #3 (Avatar). I've named the larger three of these publishers - the others are so small I don't even recall them at the moment and I'm too rushed to look them up right now.

Star Wars Dark Times #4 is finally coming out this week. The previous issue was back on 5/9. It's a long gap, but not as bad as the gap between issue #3 & #4. Either way, Dark Horse was supposed to get this back on track, so hopefully the issues will start coming out sooner.

One of the more fun books out right now is Shazam! and the Monster Society of Evil (DC), written by Jeff Smith, the creator of Bone. There has been a bit of a gap between this final issue, #4, and the previous issue. The last issue came out on May 2nd. This is a great series and I wish it would be longer. But, I guess since this last issue took a while to come out, it's probably for the best that they kept it short.

And this week's longest wait, and I'm fairly sure it's late, is Texas Strangers #2. This is by another small time publisher. It's a cute, fun book that's good for just about all ages. Now, if they could just get it out in a more timely fashion. The previous issue came out March 28th and we ordered this issue back in February, so it probably should have shipped in April.

What I'm reading this week
AMAZONS ATTACK #4 (OF 6)
AVENGERS INITIATIVE #4
BIRDS OF PREY #108
BLACK CANARY #2 (OF 4)
BRAVE AND THE BOLD #5
CAPTAIN AMERICA #28
COUNTDOWN 41
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #11
LONE RANGER #7
MARVEL ILLUSTRATED TREASURE ISLAND #2 (OF 6)
PAINKILLER JANE #2
PAUL JENKINS SUPER SUMMER SIDEKICK SPECTACULAR #1
SHAZAM THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL #4 (OF 4)
SPIRIT #8
SUPER VILLAIN TEAM UP MODOKS 11 #1 (OF 5)
THE ORDER #1
WORLD WAR HULK #2 (OF 5)

Holy cow!! That's one long list. And I've only read a few from last week. But, the good news is that the house work is all done, so I should (maybe) have more time, although I'm so so so behind on TiVo it's going to start erasing stuff soon.
