Joss Whedon's New TV Series

According to Variety on-line, FOX has just ordered 7 episodes of "Dollhouse," a new TV series created by Joss Whedon and staring Eliza Dushku (both pictured).

The gist of the show: "Dollhouse" follows a top-secret world of people programmed with different personalities, abilities and memories depending on their mission. After each assignment -- which can be physical, romantic or even illegal -- the characters have their memories wiped clean, and are sent back to a lab (dubbed the "Dollhouse"). Show centers on Dushku's character, Echo, as she slowly begins to develop some self-awareness, which impacts her missions.

FOX hopes to start production next spring, and add "Dollhouse" to its 2008 fall line-up.

Fans have already started a site for the show.

What this means for Joss' comic book writing one can only guess. My suggestion for publishers - if you want the infamous Mr. Whedon to write something for you, or if he wants to write something for you, just please please please make sure he has it all done before you start asking people to buy it.

I wouldn't worry about Joss' comic writing that much. The upcoming Writer's Guild of America strike pretty much guarantees that this show will be delayed.

As will most of TV once already-in-the-can episodes run out. Good thing I have a backlog of TV shows and DVDs to watch....
