My New Toy

I've been needing a new cell phone for about a year now and my contract has been done for a couple of months now. Usually I just go with whatever stinky phone they're giving away for free with the contract. So I'm way behind in the "cool phone" department. The camera can't send any pictures it takes, I have to punch number keys to text, and can't download ring tones or anything else for that matter.

But this weekend I stepped up! We switched from US Cellular to Sprint and I sprung for the Instinct phone. It resembles the iPhone in looks, but is somewhat different. I can now text with a keyboard--and it's unlimited! I can send and receive photos. I can use it as an MP3 player, and just spent 20 minutes loading up some music. I can browse the web. The GPS talks to me when I'm driving. I can ask it to find gas stations in the area by price, and it WILL! I can watch live & on-demand TV. I can listen to a variety of radio stations. While I was waiting for them to process my purchase at the store I watched a 80's music video. There are games, and not just Tetris either! Oh, and it can take live video too. If it made coffee & toast the device would do just about everything.

It's won several awards already. Sprint and Samsung Mobile's newly unveiled Instinct was awarded "Best in Show" in the third annual Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Award competition. Instinct was named "First Place" in the Mobile CE - Phones/Smartphone category by a panel of 31 judges who evaluated each entry on innovation, functionality, wow factor, importance of technology and ease of use and implementation. Instinct was also honored as "Most Innovative Product at CTIA Wireless 2008" in the Best of CTIA Wireless 2008 competition judged by the Editors of LAPTOP, a leading mobile technology magazine. And CNET recognized Instinct as the "Best Cell Phone" in its annual Cream of the Crop CTIA 2008 awards. "

Plus I got a nice deal on it with the 2-year contract. And even the plan will be a nice deal since I get a discount for working at US Bank and my mom and Craig all went in on a family plan for even more savings. We'll spend about the same as we did for our basic plan to now have unlimited data transfer, unlimited text, unlimited web, free mobile-to-mobile with my mom & Craig, who happen to be who I talk to the most, and 200 more minutes per month.

They don't even call it a phone anymore, it's a device. I just call it AWESOME! Needless to say, I am pretty excited about my new toy.

Nice! My cell is still an old clunker, but I'm seriously thinking about a major upgrade when it finally kicks the bucket. This looks promising!
