Merry Christmas to the Geeks

My Christmas gift to you! Kick back and enjoy the video.

(I didn't create it since I didn't get the iMac I wanted, but thanks to youtube.com, I can just post someone else's)

And here are some fun comic book holiday Christmas cards, courtesy of Newsarama.

Holiday Cheer

Craig and I collect Department 56 Original Snow Village pieces. It all started when my sister got us a church piece as a wedding gift. We couldn't have just one! While we have a bunch now, there are certain pieces we have selected because they are a reflection of our real lives together. One example is the piece above - the Comic Book Store. I should have taken a picture from the other side, so the sign would be more visible, but this is the best one I have.

Here are the displays we put up this year, with the lights turned low so that one can get the feel of a holiday village as the sun sets and the Christmas lights come on. Craig set up the village this year, as a gift to me because I'd had a bad day and he knew the village always cheers me up.

We lucked out with the weather here. It's cold and EXTREMELY windy today, but not much snow. Looks like a bit is coming down now - I think the wind makes it look like more than it really is. But a dusting would be nice to cover that black junk you saw in yesterday's post.

Tomorrow we'll be Christmasing with Craig's parents here in Waukesha. Then on Tuesday we will have Christmas with my mom and my sister's family. The gifts are purchased, but I've gotta do some wrapping. I have to make a dish for Tuesday night, but that's it for holiday cooking. So, it will be a nice, relaxing two days off. Then it's back to retailing and prepping for Neptune's 4th anniversary party (January 12th this year).

Happy Holidays to everyone! Stay warm and safe and enjoy the time with your family and friends. And don't forget - new comics are Friday the next two weeks.

Holiday Humbugs

Since there isn't much going on in comic news these next few days, I thought I'd share a couple of things.

The first picture to the right is what it looks like outside now - I'm dreaming of a black Christmas?? We had nice, white snow for most of the month and now it just got warm, so the dirt is sticking to the white stuff and making it all look nasty.

In the local news this morning we see a police officer using his radar gun to clock the speed of sledders. According to the article, there is a movement to have kids wear helmets when sledding. Farm & Fleet had helmets displayed in the store next to the sleds. For those of us over the age of 25, how did we even survive without all of these warnings to keep the strings from drapes away from us and keep us in car seats until we were over 48 inches tall or riding bikes without helmets? We should all be dead! The world is dangerous!! I hit my head sledding a few times and I'm here to talk about it - and even graduated college with a solid B average, so it didn't make me a total idiot or anything.

Tomorrow I'll try to find some holiday cheer to offset my humbugs.

R2-D2 Speakers - for the Geek Who Has Everything

As the holidays approach I'm here to share gift ideas. Sometimes you just don't know what to get the geek in your life and you are looking for something new and different. Well, if your geek is a Star Wars geek, here's an idea, courtesy of Engadget: R2-D2 speakers.

I doubt they have big sound, as they look fairly small. But, they do look cool! Bigbadtoystore.com has them for the low price of $39.99

Memorial Day

If you are wondering why there isn't any mail on Monday it's because it is Memorial Day in the U.S. Often people are so busy spending time with family, spring cleaning, doing yard work, camping, or other things that they forget what Memorial Day really is.

I wanted to take a moment to thank those men and women who have, and do, guard over our country, our rights and the safety of us and our allies. Weather you agree with the current administration and their decisions regarding Iraq doesn't matter. Everyone should thank those that sacrafice so much to put on a uniform knowing that at any time they could loose their lives. Those that leave their friends and family to enlist themselvs into our armed forces, some whom do not make it back alive to see them again. So, while you are enjoying your long weekend, remember everyone who serves, and has served, in the military.

Legion of Super Peeps

Blogger Scott of Polite Dissent has posted his annual Happy Easter comic book peeps. This year it's the Legion. Click here to see the Avengers Peeps from last year and the Justice League Peeps from 2005. That's fun stuff!
