An interesting post over at Occasional Superheroine where she discusses an article coming up in the July/August issue of "Mother Jones" magazine. She says, "I think it is significant that such an article has shown up in a print format as opposed to the hundreds of online pieces on the same subject. I think this story has legs...if you would excuse the expression."
It is significant! Even more proof that finally people are starting to take notice of the fact that super hero comics have been doing things that are often interpreted as sexist, and sometimes racist, even if they claim they didn't mean too.
People are starting to listen! That's why I say it's time to act!! If you want change to happen, then one cannot sit by and hope for it, or merely complain about it. One needs to take action. Even if it's just something small - when a group of people act together it can make a difference. Take the CW deciding to put the show Jericho back on after they'd cancelled it because fans sent letters and peanuts.
I've gotten several good ideas, both here and on P.O.W.E.R. in Comics' forum about some actions that can be taken. I'm hoping for a few more good ones and then we'll pick something and go for it! I hope that when the time comes, those people who spoke up so loudly about the injustices will join with us in taking action.

That would be nice (and helpful), but I don't think you should bet the comic shop on it, Lisa.
If there's one thing I've learned about the 'rightous rage" of online fandom, if it involves doing more than slinging verbal mud at someone (or something), they aren't nearly as interested in getting involved as they claim.
But, who knows, maybe they'll surprise me for once. But if history is anything to judge by....
James, your blanket seems to be a bit damp. I recommend you go try it out and stop spending so much time trolling the internet looking for people who want to get some positive action going and telling them what a waste of time it is.

Actually, that's not what I did. I merely stated the fact that MOST online complainers rarely take any action beyond there complaining online. Which is completely true.
I actually find Lisa's idea very worthwhile (so much so, that I've actually been helping her on the sly with it). It's great to see someone who wants to be part of the solution, not just make another problem. I hope she has lots of success with it. I just know the habits of online fandom.
And if anyone is trolling, deary, it's you. I wrote that almost a week ago and you respond here only to entice me into a fight, on a blog that isn't even your own? Looks like I'm not the one trolling anyone, sweetie.
If Lisa has a problem with my comment, she knows she can email me at any time to let me know. She also could have removed it at any time, since it's her blog. The only one who seems to have a problem with it is you. Did it cut a little too close to home for you?
I've spent nearly 20 years of my life to helping the betterment of comics, as a fan, commentator/reviewer and on the retail end. I'm a total man of action. Which is more than most online fandom can say (including you, I'd bet).
So, before you go trying to tar and feather someone, you might want to know some facts about them before you open your pretty, big mouth. And if you (or anyone else) doesn't like my view of online comic fandom, then do something to prove me wrong. Personally, I'd love to see that happen. But online fandom has the habit of letting a person down. That's what I warned Lisa of. Don't like it? Then prove me wrong... if you can.
And Lisa, I'm sorry about this response, but I refuse to have some cyber-chair quarterback, who doesn't even know me or anything ABOUT me, telling ME to take action. I don't want to start a flame war here, but neither will I sit back and have someone take a cheap shot at me, which is totally false. I hope you understand.

Marietta - I hope we CAN prove James wrong and that the internet fandom will work with me on P.O.W.E.R. and elsewhere to actually take some action. He is right - often it doesn't happen. But I'm glad you got a little angry and I hope that means that you're ready to take action and prove him wrong. James has helped and he will help, I'm not worried about that. It's weather or not we can convince more than just the few of us to take action - that's what this is about.
