Hear Ye! Hear Ye! I'd like to call the weekly meeting of "What You've Been Waiting For" to order. On this week's agenda we'll discuss late comics and really late comics, as well as what I'm going to read from this week's comics list.
Item #1: In this week's line-up we once again do NOT have a single Marvel comic that has gone over 7 weeks between issues. I'm hoping that means that they're finally getting their stuff together over there and that we won't have another "Ultimates 2 #13" episode. I believe that this is Marvel's third consecutive week of evading my infamous list of lateness.
Item #2: My cutoff date this week was April 25th - so anything that date or later counts as a long wait. Now some of the comics are late while others just have long gaps built into them from the start.
Item #3: The comics you've been waiting for...
DC's Brave and the Bold #4 seemed like it took forever to come out, since it's a great series, and since issue #3 came out back on April 18th - just about 2 months ago. I don't want lateness to ruin this great comic - so get it together DC!
Savage Tales #2 (Dynamite Entertainment) is another Red Sonja story. The first issue of this came out back on April 4th. It was ordered in March, so it should have been here by now. So far Dynamite's shipping track record is spotty - sometimes things come out on schedule and other times they run late. And it doesn't seem to be just certain books either, it could be any or all of them. Which makes me wonder if it's a printer problem (like Dark Horse has recently been claiming to have) or if it's something else altogether.
Dragon's Lair #4 (Arcana) and Fathom Kiani #2 (Aspen) both will have gone nearly 3 months between issues - having their prior issues release back on March 28th. Both publishers have a history of late shipping titles. Fathom was ordered back in February, and Dragon's Lair is even worse, showing a November 06 order code.
Witchblade Shades of Gray #2 (Image's Top Cow) should arrive in a comic book store near you tomorrow. If you didn't pick up the first issue when it came out, you might have a hard time getting it now, since it came out back on March 21st.
Wonderland #4 (Slave Labor Graphics) is finally here - after over 3 months of waiting. Issue #3 came out on March 14th. This is a cute comic, but each issue sells less than the one before - I think lateness is part of the problem. Hopefully they'll put it into a nice graphic novel that people will buy.
Dead @ 17 Vol 2 #4 (Viper Comics) comes out tomorrow. This one has a strong fan following, but again, it's hard to keep momentum with such large gaps between issues. However, those fans have assured me that they're used to these kinds of delays as the same thing happened with Vol 1. Issue #3 came out March 7th.
And finally, the latest of the late books. The one you figured you must have just forgotten to pick up or the store sold out of before you got there. This one went over 7 months between issues. Metal Gear Solid Sons of Liberty #9 (IDW) is finally here. There are a few rabid fans who have stopped asking when this will come in, and I think we thought they'd ended the series. But nope, another issue has arrived, so dig up the previous issues. Back on November 1, 2006, issue #8 came out. We ordered it in April - but that was a resolicit - the second time we ordered it.
Item #4 - What I'm reading...
BRAVE AND THE BOLD #4
CAPTAIN AMERICA #27
COUNTDOWN 45
FLASH THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE #13 (FINAL ISSUE)
HEDGE KNIGHT 2 SWORN SWORD #1 (OF 6)
INCREDIBLE HULK #107 WORLD WAR HULK
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #10
MADAME MIRAGE #1
SPIRIT #7
TICK 20TH ANN SP ED #1
And a couple of trades I'll read when I've got the time:
LEADING MAN VOL 1 PAPERBACK
TAG VOL 1 PAPERBACK
That's all of the items I have on the agenda. This concludes this meeting of What You've Been Waiting For. All in favor, say "Excelsior."
