Farwell Star Trek

September 1 marks the end of the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. After 11 years of living long & prospering they are taking the themed area out. I don't know what they're turning it into, but it will not be a journey to a galaxy far, far away (of course not, because that's Star Wars). No use in complaining about it, resistance is futile, after all.

When Craig and I ran off to Las Vegas to get married we stayed in the Hilton and even visited the Star Trek Experience. I have a glass from Warf's Bar to prove it! The simulation ride made Craig feel sick. The museum was pretty cool - lots of TV & movie props to see.

We did NOT get married in the Experience, just so you know. That's just where we stayed during our visit. But aparently it was a big deal for Trekkies to do so. Youtube has plenty of wedding videos like this one of just such folks being wed at the Experience.

While it is pretty geeky, it still was pretty cool. Someting different from the usual. Probably something we won't see again, as the series begins to fade out of popularity and head out into obscurity. I can say I was there. A pop-culture classic now becomes a memory for thousands of visitors as the exhibit is dismantled.

"Five card stud, nothing wild. And the sky's the limit" -- Picard, uttering the last line of the Next Generation TV series (All Good Things...)
